Philatelic Society of Australia Centenary - 2011

CentenaryThe first meeting of the Philatelic Society of Australia (PSA), originally the Junior Philatelic Society of Australia was held in October 1911.

The present committee plans to celebrate the Society’s centenary by organization of commemorative meetings throughout 2011 and the publication of an account of the first 100 years. Accordingly, the committee wishes to contact former members, or persons, that possess ant items of interest, memorabilia or anecdotal information on the Society’s early years.

We are particularly interested in obtaining copies of photographs, old syllabus, minutes of early meetings and awards, including winners of the Society’s medal. The whereabouts of the dies used to produce this medal is also not known.

Some questions requiring answers are:-

  1. What was the original name of the PSA?
  2. The Philatelic Society of NSW was formed from the PSA in 1928. Why?
  3. What was the PSA silver medal awarded for?
  4. Was the PSA the first to introduce daytime meetings in NSW
